Supporting comprehensive building renovations
Renovation Strategy Tool (RESTO) helps local governments to support building owners in the preparation and implementation of comprehensive renovation projects, to assess the volume and effects of investments in the joint renovation of buildings, and to find the best technical solutions based on the characteristics of specific buildings.
The purpose of the RESTO is to collect data from various databases (the building registry, the Estonian digital twin created by the Land Board, registers related to heritage conservation restrictions, etc) about the buildings in the observed area and compare their energy efficiency with the best renovated buildings.
Based on nearly 500 parameters, the model analyses around 12,000 renovation possibilities for each building and suggests how the buildings in the given area should be renovated in such a way that it is possible to ensure the objectives of energy savings and emission reduction and optimal costs for the building owners, while not contradicting various building restrictions.
RESTO also reduces the workload of planners and designers, renovating buildings together makes this activity more attractive for construction companies as well, and overall costs and bureaucracy related to building renovation are reduced.
RESTO service for city officials and politicians:
RESTO model allows to craft a strategy for renovation of a district of a city in a few minutes, based on data from Building Registry, digital twin and energy consumption data. Such strategy would present:
- What buildings should be renovated in first instance to reduce most the energy consumption and carbon emissions of a district.
- What technical solutions would be most appropriate to reach A or B energy efficiency levels.
- How much should be invested into each building and into district as a whole, what are the payback times.
- How much annual carbon emissions could be reduced.
- To assess the viability of different heating options in these districts.
RESTO service for real estate owners:
RESTO model allows to craft a strategy for renovation of your buildings in a few minutes, based on data from Building Registry, digital twin and energy consumption data. Such strategy would present:
- What buildings should be renovated in first instance to reduce most the energy consumption and carbon emissions of a district.
- What technical solutions would be most appropriate to reach A or B energy efficiency levels.
- How much should be invested into each and into all selected buildings, what are the payback times.
- How much annual carbon emissions could be reduced (increasing sales argument).
RESTO is currently designed to work based on Estonian databases. To make it work in other countries, it would be needed to tie the model with relevant databases (building registry, digital twin of a city or district, energy consumption data), to adjust the calculation methodology to reflect local regulations on energy certificates (currently it relies on regulations that are applied in Estonia and Finland), and to guarantee that the data about buildings is acute.
