Milton Keynes is one of the physically greenest cities in the UK, with large amounts of green space to maintain. Many of the spaces the Council does landscaping services on are grass verges and roundabouts located on or near busy and fast roads, which require expensive and disruptive road closures to access. The City Council estimates it spends over £1 million GBP per annum on the road closures alone to allow the landscaping work to happen and keep staff safe, and when accounting for the total cost of staff, equipment and these closures, over £2 million per annum and this maintenance programme. The City Council is interested in exploring solutions which would remove the need for disruptive and expensive over night road closures, and could automate/introduce robotic solution into hard to reach areas.
