Enhancing Disaster Resilience through Smart Communities

The initial proposal aims to collaboratively develop a smart community toolkit that empowers communities to better manage floods and other disasters. Additionally, we plan to pilot CogniCity OSS (Open Source Software), an urban risk management platform designed to gather real-time reports and crowd-sourced data.

We aim to enhance communities’ capacity to understand and share disaster-related data, increase risk awareness, and facilitate humanitarian actions, such as organizing volunteer activities and managing logistics during emergencies. Our approach goes beyond just providing a toolkit—it includes a social strategy to engage people and raise awareness about disaster risks.

Our vision is for the community to collaboratively analyse data—sourced from both official city channels and crowd inputs— and make informed decisions based on this information. Ultimately, we seek to build social capacity for analzing data and understanding the risks associated with various emergencies, including floods, fires, and more.
