Unsafe sidewalks

Tel Aviv city is facing a number of issues linked to the increasing numbers of Micro Mobility users; one of them is the lack of safety for pedestrians.
Cyclists/ motorbikes/e-scooters riding on the sidewalks against the rules and poor enforcement pose a real danger to pedestrians. As the city is considered a “walkable city” and promotes itself as a “pedestrian-friendly city”, it is one of the city’s top priorities to provide quality space for pedestrians through sidewalks and street space, especially for vulnerable people such as children, infants, elderly and people with disabilities.
In many major cities with large, congested metropolitan areas, the use of motorcycles, scooters, moped (powered two-wheelers) has increased sharply and these cities face a similar challenge and cannot always keep up with the pace of providing appropriate infrastructure for all road users. Additionally, the prevalence of new fast food delivery services such as Wolt, which is very popular in Israel, further increases the problem. Safety issues in our country may be more severe as people do not always tend to follow traffic rules, alongside regulation obstacles related to traffic violations’ enforcement.
