The Meta City concept is associated with the use of state-of-the-art AR and VR technologies for optimizing urban processes and building a more sustainable and inclusive urban environment. It closely aligns with enhancements in Internet connectivity, including the country-wide availability of 5G and forthcoming 6G technologies.
Sample Meta City use cases from the Nordic countries include:
- Virtual co-working spaces (e.g., virtual 10th floor for co-innovation, a concept proposed and developed by Nokia).
- User engagement during hospital construction and hospital staff training (nurses’ situational awareness in emergency situations, etc.).
- Hybrid education facilities and meeting rooms.
- Education and training of engineers in virtual power plants and remote control of power plants.
- Using smartphone data to detect mobility patterns in the city and data-informed optimization of public transportation.
- Using AI, sensor, and video camera data to model and monitor fire emergencies in manufacturing facilities.
