Celebrating Serio Angelo Agriesti’s successful PhD defense
On September 27th, an early-stage researcher in the FinEst Centre, Serio Angelo Agriesti, successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Aalto University’s department of Built Environment.
His thesis, titled “Expanding the Applicability of Large-scale Transportation Models for the Assessment of Disruptive Mobility Technologies” addresses modern mobility challenges. With increasing complexity and fluidity in daily life, transportation is no exception.
Since the recent pandemic, many people continue to work from home, which is just one reason why traditional large-scale transport models are becoming outdated. To create more accurate future scenarios for urban traffic, Serio used agent-based models.
Rather than relying on historical data to forecast road traffic, he developed a synthetic model of city of Tallinn residents’ trips and the reasons behind them. This model includes an impressive 477 parameters and accounts for both the supply and demand of traffic.
Special congratulations are also in order for Serio’s supervisor, Associate Professor Claudio Roncoli!
